Dimple Shah has it all figured out. Rishi Patel is a hopeless romantic. So when his parents tell him that his future wife will be attending the same summer program as him—wherein he’ll have to woo her—he’s totally on board. Because as silly as it sounds to most people in his life, Rishi wants to be arranged, believes in the power of tradition, stability, and being a part of something much bigger than himself.

The Shahs and Patels didn’t mean to start turning the wheels on this “suggested arrangement” so early in their children’s lives, but when they noticed them both gravitate toward the same summer program, they figured, Why not?

Dimple and Rishi may think they have each other figured out. But when opposites clash, love works hard to prove itself in the most unexpected ways.

Un contemporain adorable qui m’a fait découvrir les traditions de l’Inde, avec des personnages attachants.

“This is our life. We get to decide the rules. We get to say what goes and what stays, what matters and what doesn’t.”

J’ai beaucoup aimé ce roman, j’ai trouvé cela vraiment mignon et avec des sujets qui sont encore ancrer dans la culture de l’Inde. On parle ici du mariage, des compatibilités, stabilités d’un couple, mais aussi de l’ambition personnelle et l’évolution. J’ai trouvé cela vraiment bien de voir le côté traditionnelle et totalement l’inverse. J’ai trouvé cela vraiment chou pour l’été et j’ai passé un agréable moment avec la jolie écriture de l’auteure. En parlant d’écriture, comme chaque contemporain, je n’ai pas ressenti que je lisais en anglais. J’ai trouvé cela très léger et très agréable!

On suit deux personnages qui sont un peu en recherche sur eux, prit dans les traditions et leurs ambitions. Deux personnages qui vont avoir leurs destins plus lier qu’ils ne le voudraient.

“She refused to be one of those girls who gave up on everything they’d been planning simply because a boy entered the picture.”

Dimple plutôt timide mais douer dans ce qui est technologie. Elle veut en faire une carrière. Elle sait imposer son ambition autour d’elle. Elle montre une détermination et une force à vouloir faire ce qu’il faudra pour être heureuse. Elle est déterminée voir quelques fois, un peu trop têtu à mon sens. Cela reste un personnage adorable et combiné avec Rishi.

Rishi est un garçon qui a les traditions très ancrés dans son esprit. Il veut rendre fière ses parents en se coupant les ailes de ses propres ambitions. Malgré les débuts complexe avec Dimple, elle lui apprend plus qu’il ne voudrait le croire. L’artiste en lui se réveille. Je l’ai trouvé tellement doux, gentil et patient avec Dimple. Elle était souvent le feu et lui l’eau qui calmait les choses. Deux personnalités qui se complètent selon moi.

La famille et la tradition, on a l’importance de la famille des deux côté et des traditions sur le mariage. On a souvent cette impression que les deux personnages ont une certaines pressions envers eux.

En bref, je recommande cette lecture qui m’a fait passer un très bon moment. J’ai trouvé cela vraiment mignon ! Je pense que je le mettrais dans les romans qui peuvent être lu par des débutants !
